Quartier Lyes for grey and mid tones

Quartier Lyes for grey and mid tones

Quartier Q-Plus lyes allow hardwoods to be given oyster, grey and mid-browns tones that are free of yellowness or reds.  Quartier lyes are made in The Netherlands.

After applying the lye to the wood, you need to complete the work with either our oil resin, UV-filtering lacquer or polymer oil finishes. There are various systems that lead to different effects which we will present through kits.

Quartier lyes have a unique chemistry and exceptionally fine colour pigments dissolved in them. As the lye dries on the wood, it changes the wood’s colour evenly through an adaption of the wood's lignins and the absorption of the pigmentation into the wood pores & grain. It is the evenness of this that gives the wood a high-quality, elegant look. Both light and shadow show in the wood grain, adding an interest that would not come from a stain or dye.

Protecting the wood from sunlight; After applying the lye to the wood, you need to complete it. When your wood will be exposed to direct sunlight, then the Quartier Zero UV-filtering lacquer is a great option. This keeps the wood from fading, so its colour stays bright and fresh .

Customizing the colour

You can create your own wood colours using Quartier’s lye products. These are some key points:
- Q-plus is water-based and eco-friendly. It provides a strong, even colour across the wood.
- There are 3 main base colors, and you can mix them to create your own shades with a further 8 variants
 - 4 Diffusing: This makes the color lighter and softer while still neutralising the natural yellow of the wood.
 - 3 Tinting: This makes the color darker and richer. Some tints, like Wenge and Todi, are especially strong and make the wood much darker.
 - 1 Diluting: This spreads the color pigments out more so the wood’s natural patterns show through more clearly.

In Summary:
- Quartier Q-Plus wood lye treatments change the colour of wood without staining it.
- Quartier lyes, made in the Netherlands, can be finished with lacquers or oils for long-lasting protection.
- You can customize your wood’s colour by mixing the base lyes with diffusers, tints, or dilutors to get the exact look you want.
