Oil resin top coats

Oil resin top coats

The Hesse 5216 Oil Resin ranges are a mixture of natural oils and natural oils modified with alkyd resins offering; different end-numbers indicate different sheen results. -2 is a matt 20%, -4 is satin 40%, -7 is satin gloss 70%. This oil has a light effect on the inherent colour of your wood and will form a high-quality protective film with very good scratch resistance and good accentuation of the wood.

These resins are analogous in their use to commonly marketed hardwax oils, but without the waxy slip effect associated with those. These are NOT hazardous products so you will not have to worry about compromising your property or vehicle insurance when storing them and they can be shipped with any courier who accepts liquids assuming they are packaged to prevent spills.

We see two reasons to use Oil Resins in place of classic impregnating oils:

  • the protective film will fix a colour created with Quartier Lye products or with Woca & Faxe white products. A white pigment needs adding in the latter case.
  • a finish is required with a higher build to give a soft-sheen, satin or up to gloss to the surface

When developing colours remember that an Oil Resin top coat will enrich and yellow a finish. So when developing greys it will be best to use UV-filtering lacquer and when fixing whites then add a mist of white pigmentation.

Hesse Oil Resin will normally be a rolled on application using a short-pile roller. It may also be applied like a traditional oil through buffing in and subsequent removal of the excess oils. In this latter case the floor can be oiled twice in one day to accelerate your processing time.

This product is not classified under the CLP Regulation meanign it is neither hazardous or dangerous in means of transport regulations. It is only formulated using cobalt- and lead-free siccatives plus carefully selected solvents.
